First Guru Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji

Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji is the First Sikh Guru and Founder of Sikhism.His father name was Shri Mahita kalu Rai ji and mother name was Mata Tripta Ji.He was Born in the year 1469 at Rai Bhoe di Talwandi now called “Shri Nankana Sahib” in Pakistan.His Maternal Village name is Chahal Lahore (Pakistan).

Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Sister name was Bebe Nanaki Ji.Bebe Nanaki Ji husband name was Bhai Jai Ram Ji. When Guru Ji was 7 years old, his parents send them to pandit for schooling.Guru Ji was married to Mata Sulakhni Ji at Batala (Punjab).He has two sons , namely Baba Shri Chand Ji (Elder Son) and Baba Lakhmi Chand Ji.

Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji has Started the Langar (Free Food to Everyone) with 20 Rupees.Till Now in every gurdwara (Sikh temples), people can have free food and everyone can come and eat free food.Sikhs all over the world also doing a great job by providing free food to homeless, poor needy people.

Japji Sahib was written by Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji and is the most famous Gurbani of him.There are other three as well, namely “asa di var”, “manjh ki var” and “malar ki var”.Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji said famous quote “na hum hindu na hum musalman” means neither we are hindu nor musalman.Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji has four udashi (journeys)  of the world.

Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji told human beings to earn honestly,  perform pure dedication towards God and do charity works for humanity.Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Died in the year 1539 at Kartarpur Sahib (Pakistan).

Second Guru Shri Guru Angad Dev Ji

 

The Second Guru of Sikhism is Shri Guru Angad Dev Ji.His First name was Bhai Lahina Ji.His Father name was Bhai Pheru Mal Ji and mother name was mata Dayia kaur ji.He was born in the year 1504 at Shri Mukatsar Sahib.He was married to mata khiwi ji in the year 1519.There are 4 children of guru angad dev ji include two sons and two daughters.The son’s name were shri dasu ji and shri datu ji, and the daughters name were Bibi Amro Ji and Bibi Anokhi Ji.

Shri Guru Angad Dev Ji meet shri guru nanak dev ji at Shri Kartarpur Sahib (Pakistan).For almost 7 years , guru angad dev ji served shri guru nanak dev ji. In the year 1539 , Guru Nanak Dev Ji award the title of Sikh Guru to Guru Angad Dev Ji.He then started the preaching of sikhism from Shri Guru Khadoor Sahib (Dist Taran Taaran).His 63 slok vara are presented in the Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
In asa di var, he has alomost 15 slok presented in it.

The Gurmukhi Lipi was developed by Shri Guru Angad Dev Ji.After defeated from sher shah suri, Badshah Humayun was came to Shri Guru Angad Dev
Ji at Shri Khadoor Sahib.Guru Angad Dev Ji was died at the age of 48 years in the years 1552.Then Shri Guru Angad Dev Ji award the title of Sikh Guru to Guru Amardas Ji, who was the third sikh Guru after Guru Angad Dev Ji

Third Guru Shri Guru Amardas Ji

Shri Guru Amardas Ji was the Third Sikh Guru.His Father name was Shri Tej Bhan Ji and mother name was Mata Sulakhni Ji.He was born in the year 1479 at Village Baserke Gilla (Dist, Shri Amritsar Sahib).His father was doing a job of Agriculture and has its own shop.He was married to Bibi Ram kaur Ji in the year 1502.He has two sons (Baba Mohan Ji and Baba Mohri Ji).His daughters name were Bibi Dani Ji and Bibi Bhani Ji.

Shri Guru Amardas Ji got the award of Guru Sahib in the year 1552.He settled the town Gowidwal Sahib in Dist Tarn Taran.
He said the famous quote “pahile pangat pashe sangat”.The events of Jorh Mela was started by Guru Amardas ji.
Guru Amardas ji has 17 rags of Gurbani in Guru Granth Sahib.The Gurbani of Anand Sahib was belongs to him.
He destroyed the practices of Sathi and Parda to secure women from Persecutions.

King Akbar came to the court of Shri Guru Amardas ji in the year 1565 with down to earth attitude.He is the maternal grandfather of Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji who is the Fifth Guru of Sikhism.The total Guru’s throne of Guru Amardas ji is 22 years 5 months.Shri Guru Amardas ji further award the title of Guru Sahib to Bhai Jetha Ji (Shri Guru Ramdas Ji), the fourth sikh Guru.Shri Guru Amardas ji died in the year 1574 at Gowidwal Sahib.

Fourth Guru Shri Guru Ramdas Ji

Shri Guru Ramdas Ji was the fourth Sikh Guru.His first name was Bhai Jetha Ji.His father name was Shri Haridas Ji and mother name was mata Dayia Kaur ji.He was born in the year 1534 at Cunni Mandi Lahore (Pakistan).Later on he was living with his maternal grandmother at village Baserke (Amritsar).In his childhood life, he used to sell small earthern pots.At the age of 19, he was married to Bibi Bhani Ji in the year 1553 at Gowidwal Sahib (Dist Tarn Taran).He has three sons (Shri prithi chand ji , shri mahadev ji and Guru Arjan Dev Ji).

In the year 1574, Guru Amardas Ji award the title of Sikh Guru to Guru Ramdas Ji at Gowidwal Sahib.After obtaining Guru’s throne, he spent most of his life at Shri Gowidwal Sahib.Shri Amritsar Sahib was settled by Guru Ramdas Ji.He called 52 different types of businessmen’s
and skilled workers after settling down the Amritsar City.He started the construction of Amritsar Sarovar in the year 1577.The House where Guru Ramdas Ji lived now called “Guru Ke Mehal”.Baba Shri Chand Ji (elder son of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji) came to Shri Amritsar to meet Shri Guru Ramdas Ji

His 679 shabads(Devotional Songs) in 30 Rag’s are presented in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.He pronounced the Bani of Lawa (For the purpose of Marriage in Sikh Tradition)in Suhi Rag.He died in the year 1581 at Shri Gowidwal Sahib.After Him, His Son Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji was the Fifth Sikh Guru.

Fifth Guru Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji

Shri Guru Arjan Dev ji was born in the year 1563 at Gowidwal Sahib (Dist Tarn Taran).His Father name was Shri Guru Ramdas Ji and mother name was  Bibi Bhani Ji.He was married to Mata Ganga Ji.Guru Ji son name was Guru Hargobind Ji.Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji spend his childhood time at  Gowidwal Sahib.Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji got the GuruShip’s in the year 1581 from his father shri Guru Ramdas Ji.During GuruShip’s Guru Ji age was 18 years and 4 months.His total Guru’s throne were 24 years and 9 months.

Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji has most of his Gurbani in Guru Granth Sahib.He has wrote Bani in 30 Rag’s.Sukhmani Sahib Bani was wrote by him at Gurdwara Ramsar Sahib.Bhai Gurdas Ji wrote the first part of Guru Granth Sahib ordered by Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji.He has settled two towns (Tarn Taran and Kartarpur (Dist Jalandhar).He installed the famous cheharta well on the name of his son (Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji).

According to the history,Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji was the  first one who attained the martyrdom.This is the reason, he is known by the chief of martyrs.He was martyred in the year 1606 at Lahore (Pakistan).Jahagir Badshah and Chandu Brahman both are guilted for the martyr of Guru Ji.Guru ji said the famous quote “Tera kiya Mitha Lage”, means (whatever the God is doing towards him, it feels like sweet for him.).After him, Guru Ji gave the GuruShip’s to his Son Shri Guru Hargobind Sahib ji , who is the sixth Guru of Sikhism.

Sixth Guru Shri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji

Shri Guru Hargobind Sahib ji was the Sixth Guru of Sikhism.He was born in the year 1595 at Guru Ki Wadali (Shri Amritsar Sahib).His Father name was Guru Arjan Dev Ji and Mother name was Mata Ganga Ji.He started his schooling under the surveillance of Baba Budha Ji.He attained the GuruShip’s in 25th May 1606.He is also called the master of “Miri-Piri”,because he wore the two swords, one is the sword of political  sovereignty  and other is the sword of spiritual sovereignty.

Shri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji has Five Sons and One Daughter.The Sons name were (Baba Gurdita Ji, Shri Suraj Mal Ji, Shri Ani Rai Ji, Baba Atal Rai Ji, and Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji) and Daughter name was Bibi Viro Ji.He settled the Akal Takhat Sahib (The Court of Sikhism) at Shri Amritsar in the year 1606.He was the first one who declare an ordered to sikhs.He started the Practices of singing DhadiVara.At the time of Guru Hargobind Sahib  Ji, Bhai Natha Ji and Bhai Abdula Ji are the Dhadhis who sangs a vara’s.

He also constructed the Famous Fort Lohgarh Sahib (in Amritsar).After seeing the Sikhism as the emerging power of the world, Mughal Emperor Jahangir arrested the Guru Ji.After this, Shri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji executed from the Gwalior fort along with the 52 Kings.Because of this, people called Guru ji as “Bandi Chod Data”.The Horses which were presented to the Guru Ji were taken away by Emperor Shah Jahan. Then Bhai Bidhi Chand Ji One of the Sikh of Guru Ji,brought this horses back from Shah Jahan.

Shri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji Fought against the Shah Jahan for the purpose of injustices.He fought four wars, so that people will get justice, freedom from wrong-doings.The Four wars were fought at Shri Amritsar, Shri Hargobindpur,GuruSar Mhiraj (Bathinda) and Kartarpur(Jalandhar).The Famous places belongs to Guru Hargobind Sahib ji are Fort Lohgarh Sahib, Shri Akal Takhat Sahib,Shri Kiratpur Sahib,Kaulsar Sahib and Bibeksar Sahib.He Died at Shri Kiratpur Sahib in the year 1644. Shri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji honored the GuruShip to Shri Guru HarRai Sahib Ji which is the seventh Guru of Sikhism.

Seventh Guru Shri Guru HarRai Sahib Ji

Shri Guru HarRai Sahib Ji was the Seventh Guru of Sikhism.He was born in the year 1630 at Shri Kiratpur Sahib.His Father name was Baba Gurdita Ji and Mother name was Mata Nihal Kaur Ji.He used to learn under the surveillance of sixth Guru Shri Guru Hargobind sahib ji.He was married in the year 1640 at the age of 10 year to Mata Krishan Kaur Ji.His sons name were Baba RamRai Ji and Guru harkrishan Sahib Ji.He was 14 years old when he got GuruShip in the year 1644.

Shri Guru HarRai Sahib Ji kept the army of 2200 Horsemen’s. GuruSahib Ji opened free Chemist Shop at Shri Kiratpur Sahib for the poor needy peoples.His Total Guru’s throne were 17 years.He died in the year 1661 at Shri Kiratpur Sahib.After Him, the next Guru of Sikhism is Shri Guru HarKrishan Sahib Ji, who was also the son of Guru HarRai Sahib Ji.

 

Eight Guru Shri Guru HarKrishan Sahib Ji

The Eight Guru of Sikhism is Shri Guru HarKrishan Sahib Ji.He was born in the year 1656 at Shri Kiratpur Sahib.His Father name was Guru HarRai Sahib Ji and Mother name was Mata Krishan Kaur Ji. On his Birthplace, a Gurdwara Sis Mahal Sahib is Situated.He got the GuruShip from his  Guru father in the year 1661.He was the youngest one of all the Sikh Guru’s.He is also known by “Bal Pritam”. Baba Gurdita ji was his GrandFather.

He went to Delhi on called of Sikh Sangat of Delhi.On the way to delhi,he stayed at Village Panjokhra (Ambala).He ordered  Chaju Ciour to translated the Gita.In the time of GuruShip of Shri Guru HarKrishan Sahib Ji, Aurangzeb was the ruler of Delhi.While living in Delhi, Guru ji always preached about the “Satnam” of Waheguru at Delhi.

He died in the year 1664 at the age of 8 years.His spiritual body was cremated at the banks river Yamuna (Delhi).In this place , a gurdwara “”Bala Sahib” was situated.In his soul, a light of “Shri Guru Nanak Dev ji ” was working.Before his death, he said “Baba Bakala” means Guru Teg bahadur Ji, who was living at the town of Bakala was the next Guru of Sikhism after him.

Ninth Guru Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib Ji

Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji was the Ninth Guru of SIkhism.He was born in the year 1621 at Guru Ke Mehal (Shri Amritsar Sahib).His Father name was Shri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji and Mother name was Mata Nanki Ji.His Maternal Village is Baba Bakala (Dist Amritsar).He studied under surveillance of Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji.Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji along with his father also fought in the war at Kartarpur (Jalandhar), where he showed the extraordinary skills of Teg “weapon used in war”.

He was Married to mata Gujri Ji in the year 1632.His son name was Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji.He got the GuruShip in the year 1664.He settled the town of “Chak Nanki” in the name of his mother now called Shri Anandpur Sahib.He martyr on the request of Pandits from Kashmir,so that Guru Ji could save them from the bad rules of mughal ruler.

His Gurbani in Guru Granth Sahib has 59 Shabads (Devotional Songs ) and 57 salok.Shri Guru Gobind Singh ji include the Gurbani of Guru Teg Bahadur Ji into Siri Guru Granth Sahib at Takhat Shri Damdama Sahib (Talwandi Sabho).Shri Guru Teg Bahadur ji Martyred at Chandni Chownk Delhi in the year 1675 along with other sikhs (Bhai Mati Das, Bhai Sati Das, and Bhai Diyala Ji).Now Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib  (Delhi) is built where Guru Ji was Martyred.His Total Guru’s throne were 10 years and 7 months.After Him, The Tenth Guru of Sikhism is  Shri Guru Gobind Singh ji,who was also the son of Guru Teg Bahadur Ji.

Tenth Guru Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji

Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji was the tenth Guru of Sikhism.He was born in the year 1666 at Shri Patna Sahib (Bihar).His Father name was Guru Teg Bahadur Ji and Mother name was Mata Gujri Ji.He lived alomost 5 years in Patna.In Anandpur Sahib, He learnt the Pharci, Sanskrit and many other different languages.He was 9 years old, when he got GuruShip.He was married to Mata Sundri Ji, Mata Jito Ji and Mata Sahib Deva Ji.

Shri Guru Gobind Singh has four sons (Sahibzada Baba Ajit Singh Ji, Sahibzada Baba jujhar Singh ji, Sahibzada Baba Jorawar Singh Ji and Sahibzada Baba Fateh Singh Ji).The Two Elder Sons of Guru Ji were Martyred during the Battle of Chamkour Sahib and Two younger sons were martyred at Sarhind (Gurdwara Shri Fatehgarh Sahib).Mata Gujri were martyred at the cold tower of Sirhind.Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji wrote most of the Gurbani at Shri Pauta Sahib (Dist Sirmour, Himachal Pardesh).The Famous Gurbani of Guru Ji “Jap Sahib”.

Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Found the Khalsa Panth in the year 1699 at Shri Anandpur Sahib.The last battle of Anandpur Sahib took place in the year 1704.The latter wrote to Aurangzeb by Guru Gobind Singh Ji known as “JafarNama” means (letter of victory).Shri Guru Gobind Singh ji said the famous quote to organised all the human races as one, which is “ਮਾਨਸ ਕੀ ਜਾਤ ਸਭੈ ਏਕੇ ਪਹਿਚਾਨਬੋ (Manas Ki Jat Sabhe eke Pahichanbo)”.Guru Ji died at Shri Hazoor Sahib (Nanded , Maharashtra).Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Said to all the sikhs, that they follow Guru Granth Sahib as The Last Guru of Sikhism (in the form of Holy Book) after him.
